SMITHFORD STREET
This photograph is not of very good quality but is quite interesting. It was taken from the Cathedral spire, looking Westin the summer of 1946.Woolworth's and the Drinkwater Arcade are on the left. West Orchard is on the right, where the
temporary market stalls have been set up on the site of the Market Hall that was bombed on November 14/15th 1940.
The building behind the market stalls is the former British Restaurant where My father used to meet me at lunch time to buy my dinner during the war. In the centre of the picture is St. John's church and to the right of that is St. Osburg's
Catholic church and the Gasometer in Hill St.
