CHRISTMAS CARD 1946

This card was designed by Brian Connell for the Coventry City Council for Christmas 1946.The picture depicts Coventry Past on the left , Coventry blitzed on the right and a young boy and girl looking over to see in the centre, a vision of Coventry rebuilt. This card was created some time before Donald Gibson's model of "new Coventry" was on show to the public. The inscription inside reads:- VISION FOR A CITY:- A city of justice where none shall prey on others. a city of plenty where vice and poverty shall cease to fester. a city of brotherhood and happy homes where all success shall be founded on service and honour given to nobleness alone. a city of peace where order shall not rest on force, but on the love of all for the city wherein we dwell. The right hand page says:-Thankfulness for the past, Courage for the future, Peace of heart in the present, may these be yours in full measure, All good wishes for Christmas, From----. As far as I know, this is the only one of these cards still in existence.
